APN Settings for Kenya eSIMs — Safaricom & Airtel (2026)
Manual APN settings for Kenya eSIMs, for the rare cases where automatic configuration doesn't kick in after installation.
Kenya eSIMs configure their APN (Access Point Name) automatically during installation in the vast majority of cases. If data isn't working after a successful eSIM install and data roaming is already on, manually setting the APN is the standard next fix.
When you actually need this
Most travelers never need to touch APN settings — installation handles it. This becomes relevant only if you've confirmed the eSIM is installed, active, and data roaming is enabled, but data still isn't connecting.
Finding your provider's APN
Your eSIM provider's confirmation email or app usually lists the correct APN if manual entry is needed — check there first, since it varies by which underlying network (Safaricom or Airtel) your specific plan uses. Common Safaricom-based APN values are "safaricom" or a provider-specific string; Airtel-based plans typically use "internet" or a similarly simple value.
Entering the APN manually
On iPhone: Settings > Cellular > your Kenya eSIM line > Cellular Data Network, enter the APN in the "APN" field under Cellular Data. On Android: Settings > Network & internet (or Connections) > Mobile network > Access Point Names, tap "+" to add a new APN with the value from your provider, then select it.
Still not working after setting the APN
Restart your phone after saving the new APN — this setting often doesn't take effect until after a reboot. If it's still not connecting, contact your eSIM provider directly with your order or QR code reference; at that point it's more likely an activation issue on their end than a settings issue on yours.
